Wednesday, February 1, 2023
11:00am
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 465 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115
Admission:
Included with Patron Membership. Space is limited.Courtney Harris, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts and Sculpture at the MFA, will give us a tour of the newest period room at the MFA, the French Salon, which opened this summer in August. The French Salon has been in the MFA’s collection for nearly 100 years, but conservators and curators are still discovering new information about it to this day. In addition to the French white and gold paneling, marble mantle and chandeliers, the gallery features a display of over 100 pieces of French domestic silver from the Firestone collection. We will also have a chance to visit the MFA’s two British period rooms, the oak-paneled Hamilton Palace dining room from Scotland, and the elegant Newland House drawing room from Gloucestershire.
Immediately after the tour we’ll join Meghan Melvin, Sharf Curator of Design, for a private viewing of related design archives
in the Morse Study Room.
Join us for lunch at the MFA’s New American Cafe immediately following the program.
